Notes: OK, although not directly Guinness related, this book is still one of our favourite early record books from the U.S.A. and is believed to be the first "records" book. The introduction states that, "It is the only book of its kind and there is nothing either in the New York Public Library or the Congressional Library in Washington even remotely like it". Although some of the so-called records in this book are rather fanciful by modern standards, many of the records exactly match those in the first Guinness Book of Records. Truly a ground-breaking publication!

Notes: For Guinness Record Book collectors, this is a fascinating isuue of the famous magazine which contains a very in-depth article about the Guinness Book of World Records. Jerry Kirshenbaum's article (entitled, "There's Music in the Where?") runs from page 56 to page 70, and contains a wealth of information about the McWhirters, the history of the book and some of the records from the 17th U.S. (25th U.K.) edition and earlier. The article is believed to contain the first instance of the term "Guinnessport" (the sport of getting into the Guinness book).
